Hi there, Cracker is doing just great! He gets ridden all the time, the
other day he went out for 4 hours and he barely breaks a sweat (mostly
because he's so laid back). He's been on at least 25 trail rides, most all
with me because Joe rarely gets to ride. I am now riding him in a
hackamore because he kept playing with the bit, so now when I canter him
he thinks it's real cute to flip the shanks over his head and the reins
are coming out from between his ears! He is a real goofball and we are
having tons of fun. He hasn't learned to gallop fast yet but I want to
take it slow anyway because he is young. The other riders gallop away at a
dead run and he doesn't get concerned, just keeps cantering. Since we live
on flat sand and have miles of trails we have become more and more
confident with our horses over the last couple years to move out; even Joe
who only learned to ride at 43 is comfortable in an all out run. Horses
have what I call "warp speed" (from star trek) and our paint mare is so
reliable that we gallop her on a regular basis. With deer and bunnies,
coyote and birds in the brush, there is never a dull moment when you're
moving at that speed; however our mare is always the same and always has
come through for us and there have been no accidents (thank the Lord!).
Here is a photo of Joe on Cracker Jack. Take care! Julie
